I’m sure you’ve heard people say branding is more than just your logo. But what exactly is branding? Help me tangibly understand it so I can build a brand I and my ideal clients will love.

Branding is the person while graphic design is how the person dresses, does their make-up, styles their hair, tattoos and piercings… anything that goes into creating their physical appearance. Branding however is the entire person. It consists of all parts of a person’s being such as their consists their personality, reputation, values & beliefs, tone of voice, sense of humor, moral character. Even indirect aspects matter like who their friends are, what sort of organizations they attend which translates into who a business collaborates with and which events they attend.

One major way of expressing these more intangible aspects of a person is through their personal style or in terms of our business, graphic design. How a person dresses and carries themselves says a lot about them. Not everything of course and it can be misleading at first but it does make a statement and it’s how other people (or ideal cleints) will get their first impression of you and ultimately make a judgement as to whether or not they like you and want to spend more time with you. That’s why creating a visiual presence that aligns with the deeper parts of your brand’s identity is important. And while a first impression is subjective to the individual judging, there are definitely key things you can do to ensure your visual identity accurately aligns with and reflects you inner identity.
